    Quick answer

For UAE embassy attestation in Singapore, your document is legalised by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) and then endorsed by the UAE Embassy in Singapore. Marriage certificates and degrees from NUS, NTU or SMU go to SAL directly; private documents such as experience letters are notarised first. UAE MOFA completes the attestation after the document reaches the UAE.

    Worth knowing

Why a Singapore Apostille Is Not Enough for the UAE

An apostille only works between countries that have joined the Hague Apostille Convention, and the UAE has not joined it. A UAE ministry will therefore not accept an apostille on its own; it looks for the UAE Embassy's endorsement on the document.

This catches people out because SAL now affixes an Apostille on every Singapore document it legalises. The apostille is still useful: it is the SAL link in the chain that the UAE Embassy verifies. It simply is not the last stamp. Some websites claim the UAE joined recently; the Hague Conference's official status table did not list it when we checked. For other destinations, our SAL apostille page explains how to decide by country, and our embassy attestation page shows how the whole chain fits together. Elsewhere in the Gulf the answer differs: Qatar also needs its embassy, while Saudi Arabia now normally accepts the apostille alone.

The Route: Notary, SAL, UAE Embassy in Singapore, Then MOFA in the UAE

The UAE route from Singapore has three steps here and one step in the UAE. Where your document starts depends on who issued it, and each stamp confirms only the one before it.

Your document Step 1 in Singapore Step 2 Step 3 In the UAE
Original NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, SUSS, SUTD, polytechnic or ITE certificate — (on SAL's direct list) SAL UAE Embassy, Singapore UAE MOFA
Certified copy of a degree, or a transcript not on SAL's direct list Singapore Notary Public SAL UAE Embassy, Singapore UAE MOFA
ROM/ROMM marriage certificate, ICA birth certificate — (government document) SAL UAE Embassy, Singapore UAE MOFA
Experience letter, board resolution, company POA Notary (checks signing authority) SAL UAE Embassy, Singapore UAE MOFA
ACRA Business Profile Certified by ACRA SAL UAE Embassy, Singapore UAE MOFA
Commercial invoice, certificate of origin Chamber of Commerce or SMF SAL UAE Embassy, Singapore UAE MOFA / importer

Who does each step, and how long it takes

    1. Document check (us, same day): from your photo we confirm the issuer, the starting point and anything missing, such as a transcript.
    2. Notary (one appointment): private documents only. A POA or declaration must be signed in front of the notary.
    3. SAL (usually processed over the counter): you normally do not need to attend; we submit and collect.
    4. UAE Embassy, Centennial Tower (its own timetable): the application is made online through UAE MOFA's channels, and UAE MOFA says attestation through its missions abroad may take up to 15 business days. We quote an expected range when we accept your file, never a promised date.
    5. UAE MOFA (you or your employer's PRO, in the UAE): done after arrival.

Documents UAE Employers and MOHRE Commonly Ask For

For a UAE work permit, the document most often requested is your highest degree, attested through the full chain. Employers in regulated fields also ask for transcripts, experience letters and sometimes a police Certificate of Clearance.

The employer's HR or PRO team usually files with MOHRE (mainland) or the free zone authority, and requirements vary by job category, so get their list in writing first. Typical requests:

    • Degree certificate — the core document for skilled roles
    • Transcript — for licensing and equivalency
    • Experience letters — signed by someone authorised; the notary checks that authority
    • Certificate of Clearance — see our COC page
    • "One and the same person" declaration — if your passport name differs from your degree

One trap: a degree studied at a Singapore private college but awarded by a UK or Australian university usually has to be legalised in the awarding country. Our degree attestation page explains the check.

Family Visa Sponsorship: Marriage and Children's Birth Certificates

To sponsor a spouse and children in the UAE, you normally need your marriage certificate and each child's birth certificate attested through the full chain. Both are Singapore government documents, so they go straight to SAL without a notary.

SAL charges S$10.70 per government document rather than S$87.20 for a notarised one (at the time of writing), so no notary fee arises. What we check:

    • Laminated certificates cannot be apostilled; see the ROM and ROMM options on our marriage certificate page.
    • Digital ICA birth certificates go in as printouts; see birth certificate attestation.
    • Names should match passports exactly, or immigration will ask questions.
    • Arabic translation: UAE authorities may ask for an Arabic translation. This is often prepared by a UAE-licensed legal translator after MOFA attestation; confirm with your sponsor's PRO before paying for a translation in Singapore.

Setting Up in a UAE Free Zone or Mainland: Company Papers Needed

A Singapore company opening a UAE branch or subsidiary typically needs its incorporation papers, constitution, a board resolution and a corporate power of attorney attested for the UAE. Free zones and mainland registrars each publish their own lists.

What usually goes into a corporate UAE file:

    • ACRA Business Profile or Certificate Confirming Incorporation — purchased from ACRA, with ACRA's endorsement and QR code, before SAL will accept it
    • Constitution (M&AA) — certified copy route confirmed case by case
    • Board resolution approving the UAE entity and appointing the manager
    • Corporate POA in favour of the UAE representative
    • Certificate of good standing / incumbency — if the registrar or bank asks

Resolutions and POAs are signed by an authorised director before our notary, who checks authority against ACRA records, and they fall under the UAE Embassy's commercial category. More for company secretaries on our corporate document attestation page.

Attested Is Not the Same as Equivalent: MOHESR Equivalency Explained

Attestation proves your degree's signatures and seals are genuine; equivalency is the UAE's decision on what your qualification is worth in UAE terms. They are separate processes, and one does not replace the other.

Attestation is the chain this page describes: notary, SAL, UAE Embassy, MOFA. Each authority confirms the previous signature. None of them assesses the course, the credits or the university's standing.

Equivalency is a recognition decision by a UAE ministry. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) handles degrees; the Ministry of Education handles school certificates. The graduate applies from the UAE side, and the attested degree and transcript are normally part of that application. The ministry may verify directly with your university.

When you are likely to need equivalency as well

    • Government or semi-government employment
    • Licensing in regulated professions such as teaching, healthcare and engineering
    • Further study in the UAE
    • Some private employers that request it for senior or regulated roles

What this means for your Singapore preparation

If equivalency is possible, attest your transcript with your degree now rather than couriering it back from Dubai later. We do not apply for equivalency or advise on outcomes; that decision belongs to the UAE ministry.

    Transparent fees

UAE Embassy Fee Categories: Personal, Commercial and Invoice

The UAE Embassy in Singapore charges a different fee for personal documents than for commercial documents, so a board resolution costs considerably more to endorse than a marriage certificate. Commercial invoices have their own fee category, separate from other commercial documents. We confirm which fee applies in your quote and pass it on at cost.

Cost item Who charges it Amount
Notarisation + SAL legalisation (private documents only) Our Notary Public, with SAL From S$189 per certified true copy or S$219 per signed declaration or POA; SAL's S$87.20 included
SAL — government document or directly listed institution SAL S$10.70 per document
UAE Embassy endorsement UAE Embassy, Singapore Personal or commercial rate, at cost; confirmed in your quote
Our embassy service fee (coordination, submission and collection) Us From S$99 per document; S$49 each extra document in the same order
Doorstep pickup / delivery (optional) Us From S$12 each way, per order
UAE MOFA attestation UAE MOFA, paid in the UAE Not collected by us

The prices shown above are starting prices. Your final price depends on the document type, number of pages and destination country, and will be confirmed in a written quotation before any work begins.

Government and embassy fees are passed through at cost. UAE MOFA's published fees are AED 150 for personal documents and AED 2,000 for commercial documents, plus service fees; your PRO pays this in the UAE.

For unusual files, we check with the embassy before submitting.

Attest Before You Leave Singapore, and Why It Matters

The Singapore steps need your original document to be physically in Singapore, and the SAL step can only happen here. Completing the chain before you fly avoids couriering originals back from the UAE under visa deadlines.

Singapore's missions in the UAE (the Consulate-General in Dubai and the Embassy in Abu Dhabi) can attest a document only after SAL has legalised it. So if you leave with an unlegalised degree, someone in Singapore still has to handle the original.

A sensible plan: send photos of everything on the employer's list the week your joining date is confirmed, and attest the family's marriage and birth certificates alongside your degree even if they follow later. If your flight date looks too tight for the embassy's processing time, we say so upfront.

When you do not need UAE attestation

    • A tourist or visit visa to the UAE
    • Your employer relies only on its own background screening, confirmed in writing
    • The document was issued outside Singapore; its chain starts there

    UAE Attestation Questions

Is an apostille valid in the UAE?

Not on its own. The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so after SAL your document still needs the UAE Embassy's endorsement in Singapore and then UAE MOFA attestation in the UAE.

How do I attest my Singapore degree for a job in Dubai?

An original NUS, NTU or SMU scroll goes to SAL directly (a certified copy goes to our notary first), then to the UAE Embassy in Singapore. After arrival, your employer's PRO completes MOFA attestation. Send us a photo first so we can confirm your degree was issued by a Singapore institution.

How long does UAE embassy attestation take in Singapore?

The notary and SAL steps are usually quick once your documents are ready: notary appointments are usually available the same or next working day, and we submit to SAL the same or next working day after signing. The UAE Embassy sets its own processing time; UAE MOFA says attestation through its missions abroad may take up to 15 business days, so we give you a realistic range when we accept the file rather than a fixed date.

Is attestation the same as equivalency?

No. Attestation confirms signatures and seals; equivalency is a separate UAE ministry decision on your qualification's level. You may need both for government jobs, licensing or further study.

I only have a laminated marriage certificate. Can it be attested for the UAE family visa?

A laminated certificate cannot receive an apostille from SAL. Order a duplicate or extract from the Registry first; we can guide you through the application and continue the chain once it arrives.

Can you do the MOFA attestation in Dubai for me?

No. MOFA attestation happens in the UAE and our work is limited to Singapore; we make sure every Singapore stamp is in place first.
